Introduction

Hello. Callistonian.net is my stomping ground on the Internet. Here, I post a potpourri of things - this place is a little random. I'm Chantelle: a 23 year old foreign language, law, and history obsessed girl.

Cecily von Ziegesar’s Gossip Girl #1
Gossip Girl revolves around the lives of privileged teens living in New York City’s Upper East Side. The vast majority of GG’s protagonists are spiteful and superficial: they are as deep as the ink on paper after a girl signs her name with a Montblanc fountain pen.

I confess. I’m a logophile (aka dork); I even created a list of beloved terms. At this moment, ten minutes after one on a Sunday morning, my favorite English word is ebullience (n. zestful enthusiasm). My favorite word is 진심 (korean. n. jin shim meaning sincerity). I suppose I love fancy terms for qualities I wish to possess. What about you? Do you have any favorite words?

Yesterday, Caitlin—Happy (late) Birthday!!— was sweet and linked FreeRice.com in a comment. FreeRice is awesome, a must visit for logophiles, those wanting to expand their vocabularies, those who like to raise things for charity, and the bored. Every question answered correctly equals ten grains of rice (not much but it adds up after awhile). Also, there are 50 levels. Can you reach 50? I’m not that cool. (I can’t do it. 45 is my best? idk.) I have a tendency to wallow in the spaces between 33 and 40.

Also, the three words I dislike the most are masticate, tribe, and gargantuan.

You are such… a… nerd! I don’t know what gargantuan is. :P (Ok now thanks to Answers.com I do)

Oh my Lord. A website for a website. Wordie is fantastic. I’m trying to sign up. It’s having problems, but I’ll be joining soon. So cool!

Thanks for the shout-out.

I’ve never made it to 50. I usually just sit around 40. I think knowing latin would be helpful in beating it.

I got addicted to the ‘Free Rice’ website. 1) I knew what I was doing was for the greater good. 2) I wanted to expand my vocabulary.

My highest level was 42.

My favourite words are superfluous and sporadic. Ebullience has a nice meaning, but I don’t like the way it sounds.

FreeRice is great! I kept guessing and getting it right… But they were *educated* guesses! :P

Ha, they asked for the definitions of thrombus and dysphoria!

I like the word “prescient” and “mendacious.”

No, I like “expectorate.”

I donated 5,000 grains of rice. I’m feeding the poor!

I love the word quintessential and the word whimsical, of course…. there are a lot of words that I like actually, but I can’t think of them at the moment.

But I am no wordanista. I do subscribe to the daily M-W emails, but my vocabulary is still sparse.

Ugh, I don’t like masticate either.

Heh…at one point Leila and I were both obsessed with wordie. My favorite word is chutzpah.

I didn’t mention what my favorite words are.

I like “mown lawn”.

I like catawampus, estival, akimbo, and petulant.

I don’t like pumpkin or gauge.

Yeah, Seth and I pwned Wordie during the first couple weeks of its existence, we topped the leaderboard for most words until I finally got fed up with it because the list wasn’t paginated so every time I wanted to add one I’d have to load this gargantuan list of, like, 800 words.

How have I never seen Free Rice before?! This is AWESOME.

…Haha, I think I just used to word “gargantuan” because you had it stuck in my head. >_

I think my favorite word would be ineffable meaning undescribable with words. Thanks for mentioning FreeRice. I hadn’t heard of it till now, and I will visit it on more than one occasion as I would love to increase my vocabulary. It’s fun and addicting.

@Seth/Leila: Wordie is paginated now. :) But like you two, I haven’t used it in ages. I just thought of it yesterday.
