Your Snow Dance Worked
I’m in the States now. I live in the South too. Everything shuts down at the mere hint of snow. The weatherman said that we might get three inches of snow on Friday or Saturday, so everyone went into a panic. They went to the supermarkets, bought up all the stuff, and clogged up all the aisles with their bodies, carts, babies, etc. At times like this, I think people buy candles? flashlights? (electricity doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to storms here) and basic foods.
All of the public schools are already closed for Friday too. Anyway, does it snow where you live? If so, what happens when it does? Tomorrow or on Saturday, I’ll take a picture and show you exactly how much (how little) snow we actually got.
*A snow dance is a dance performed to encourage cold weather and snow. Dancers, typically, hope that the snow will cause their places of work and schools to close.

Nice to see activity here. :D
Anyway, here snows even at the moment. Generally it doesn’t cause huge chaos (except in media – “winter came – omg”). Trains, trams and buses can be late if there is lot of snow or/and really cold, but generally schools etc stay open (of which I was quite sad when I was a kid) and people are not hoarding food. Actually snow isn’t that exciting here, it just comes down, people complain (because you can) and then it melts away.
Oh wow. We have gotten BARELY any snow this year, and I live near Toronto. Global warming, how I hate you. I’ve never heard a school shut down because of three inches of snow :P We usually have to get like, 8 inches before the school board will budge. :P
We mostly survive snow pretty well, but before Christmas we had over half a metre in some places, and everything just shut down.
When there’s first snowfall all the public transport fails though, because noone around here expects snow.
I’m always amused by how other places react to snow. It snows quite a bit where I live, so everyone is used to it. 3 inches is nothing. :P There are rarely any problems and the streets are plowed quickly.
Like Regina (I live 40ish minutes away from her :P), we’ve barely had any snow. I used to think it was cute/amusing when somewhere in the US it would snow two inches, and everyone would freak out and close everything down, but I can kind of understand now… I mean, the other day we had our first snowfall this winter, and everyone was in a panic because it was so unexpected!
Now, of course, all of our snow has melted. :P
Ooh, a blog! Yay. :D
I’m in New York, so snow is definitely not a big deal. Traffic snarls up, but other than that, I don’t think much happens. Long Island doesn’t get snow that often, though… we just had a freak 2 feet of snow a week before Christmas, and maybe a light flurry or two since.
I’m from Chicago, so I laugh (eh, snicker, more likely) whenever I hear about places freaking out over a measly 2-3 inches of snow. :P
The people’s reactions to a snow warning made me laugh, haha.
It doesn’t snow where I live in Australia, and the only time I’ve actually been in snow was when I was overseas in Canada, and even still, it wasn’t bad enough to warrant closing of schools, etc.
SNOW! I want it to snow where I live. I’ve recently moved to the South Island (I’m from NZ, we have 2 main islands), and I’ve been told it snows where I live. Apparently that’s about 15 mins away. ARGH. I am very jealous of you! You should of built a snow man!
Hm, my bosses said no to my time off. I’m really bumed about it. I don’t know how to stick up for myself when it comes to people who are in charge of me. Plus I tend to get very emotional when I do try to stick up for myself. I felt bad enough just asking, it felt like I was letting them down by having time off. I guess I won’t let them down because I didn’t get the time off. :(
They are taking advangte of me majorly. :( My boyfriends mom even said so. Every one says I need a new job. :( I think I’ll start looking for one that starts when my contact ends. (It’s very common for new jobs to pop up for that time, because it’s ‘End of season”).
Nope, no snow here in New Zealand! It’s summer right now, even though it’s still kind of chilly.
